About

The Department of Mathematics was started along with the very inception of the college in the year 1956. It has a vibrant team of faculty members who are strive hard to make learners excel in Mathematical teaching skills and are actively involved in imparting knowledge through teaching, researching, presenting and publishing papers and serving as resource persons in conferences. Teachers are well versed in computer and possess qualification in computer application. They make use of ICT based teaching.

Mission:
  • To work towards transformation of young people to competent and motivated professionals with sound theoretical and practical knowledge.
  • To make students aware of technology to explore mathematical concepts through activities and experimentation.
  • To create an atmosphere conducive to high class research and to produce researchers with clear thinking and determinations who can in future, become experts in relevant areas of Mathematics Teaching.
  • To inculcate in students the ability to apply mathematical and computational skills to model, formulate and solve real life applications.
  • To make the students capable of discharging professional, social and economic responsibilities ethically.
  • To provide students with knowledge and insight in mathematics so that they are able to work as mathematical professionals.

    • History

    The Department of Mathematics was started along with the very inception of the college in the year 1956. Prof.Gnanaraj. J. Mannuel was the first person to teach Mathematics pedagogy to the Student-Teachers. After his leaving in 1973, Prof.S.Packiam took the department on his shoulder till the year 1990. He also served as the Principal from 1983 to 1990. After serving as Registrar at the Infant Manonmanium Sundaranar University from 1990 to 1993, he once again came back to our Institution to lead as the principal from 1993 to 1997. Meanwhile, Dr.J.Josephine Saleth Mary was appointed in the mathematics department in the year 1990 and is still serving.

    After the Intake of additional students, Dr.S.Usha Parvathi was appointed in the year 2008. After the B.Ed. course was converted into two years programme, Ms.S.Davasuba was appointed in the year 2016. Many of our students have joined centres of excellence as teaching staff and research scholars. The staff members have guided more than 40 Student Teachers for their project work in M.Phil. degree. Moreover Dr.J.Josephine Saleth Mary was approved as research guide for Ph.D. in 2013 by Mother Teresa University, Kodaikanal and is guiding 3 Ph.D. scholars in Education. The faculty members have published about 12 research papers in various journals at International and National level.
