Introduction

Our Institution has established Institute Innovation Council on 21st November 2018  under the guidelines of ‘MHRD’s Innovation Cell (MIC)’ to systematically foster the culture of Innovation amongst all all student teachers. The primary mandate of MIC is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas and transform them into prototypes while they are informative years.

MIC has envisioned encouraging creation of ‘Institution’s Innovation Council (IICs) across selected HEIs. A network of  IICs are established to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion ecosystem in the campuses.  

Function of IIC

  • To conduct various innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities prescribed by Central MIC in time bound fashion.
  • Identify and reward innovations and share success stories.
  • Organize periodic workshops/ seminars/ interactions with entrepreneurs, investors, professionals and create a mentor pool for student innovators.
  • Network with peers and national entrepreneurship development organizations.
  • Create an Institution’s Innovation portal to highlight innovative projects carried out by institution’s faculty and students.
  • Organize Hackathons, idea competition, mini-challenges etc. with the involvement of industries.

Major Focus of MIC

  • To create a vibrant local innovation ecosystem.
  • Start-up supporting mechanism in HEIs.
  • Prepare institute for Atal Ranking of institutions on innovation achievements framework.
  • Establish function ecosystem for scouting ideas and pre-incubation of ideas.
  • Develop better cognitive ability for technology students.

Reports

  • Institute Innovation Council of V.O.C. College of Education conducted fifth India First Leadership Talk on 22nd August, 2019.at 11:30 p.m. a webinar (Facebook live) organized by MHRD’s Innovation Cell.
  • The talk was attended by around 171 prospective teachers from various Departments, 3 prospective teacher educators and 9 faculty members of the V.O.C. College of Education.
  • Mr. Abhay Jere conducted the program. The honorable HRD minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal presided over the talk series. He gave brief explanation about the new education policy in India. He cleared about the educational contribution of students toward the upliftment of India. He says that the education has become digitalised and it helps to flourish our nation towards the next level. The program was really a great useful for us.
  • Overall the session was informative, and insightful with practical guidance for the students of today.
  • We extend our sincere gratitude towards Mhrd-IIC for providing this wonderful session for us.  We are eagerly forward for the upcoming talk series.
  • On 28.08.2019 a meeting of Mhrd- Institute Innovation Council was held in staff room of V.O.C College of Education, Thoothukudi at 10.00a.m. It was presided over by the Principal Dr.T.Kanakaraj who is the president of IIc 1.0 and Convened by the convener   Dr.R.Sasipriya, Assistant Professor of Physical Science. All the faculty members attended the meeting.
