The Government of Tamil Nadu enacted Act No.(33) of 2008 to provide for the establishment and incorporation of Teachers Education University in the State of Tamil Nadu for promoting excellence in teachers education.

Our college was started in the year 1955 with affiliation of Madras University, Madras. Then our college was made to change its affiliation to the Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai and then it was affiliated to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli upto 2008.

Meanwhile the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, Chennai was started especially for the Colleges of Education and our college was affiliated to Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, Chennai from the year 2008.
