Objectives

  • Blood cannot be manufactured. It can only come as a gift from people like you
  • The need for blood increases during holidays and summer months
  • Smokers can also submit blood provided that they abstain from smoking one hour before and after donation
  • Diabetics on insulin are advised not to donate blood
  • Persons on aspirin, antibiotics, anti-hypertensive, steroids, hormones, anticoagulants, on inhalers cannot donate blood
  • A good meal at least four hours before blood donation is recommended.
  • Persons above 60 years and below 18 years cannot donate blood
  • Every three seconds someone in the world needs blood
  • One out of every 10 people entering a hospital needs blood
  • Blood makes up about 7% of your body’s weight
