Consumer Club

Objectives

  • To educate and motivate the students about the rights, responsibilities and duties.
  • To enrich the students’ knowledge about the rights of the consumers as provided in consumer protection ACT,1989.
  • To mobilize youngsters by instilling in them the spirit of protection of consumers rights.
  • To provide awareness and realization among students about their duties and responsibilities as consumer welfare schemes.
  • To help them join hand with other voluntary consumer organizations and with other consumer clubs to enhance consumer movement.
  • To make them cooperate and actively participate in completions and functions related to consumer club.
  • ACTION PLAN

  • To disseminate information gained through consumer club among their fellow student as well as among the people living in their respective locality.
  • To take part in all activities of the consumer club.
  • To observe national consumer day (24th December) and world consumer rights day (15th March)
  • To prepare the student to face the world with confidence backed by knowledge.
  • To enable them to become aware of their duties as a consumer making them better citizens.

    Activities (2018-2019)

    On 20.03.2018 Empower Consumer Education and Research Centre, Food Safety department, State government, V.O.C College of Education and Indian consumer rights organization joined together and celebrated world consumer day at V.O.C College of Education. Dr.T.Kanakaraj, Principal, V.O.C.College of Education welcomed the gathering. Mr.A.Shankar, director, Empower, Member – State Consumer Organization, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari District delivered Presidential Address. Mr. Selva Naga Ratinam, A.S.P, Thoothukudi District delivered chief guest address on ‘Consumer’s Rights and Awareness’. Mr. Thanga Vignesh, Officer, Food Safety and Medicine Control Department, Thoothukudi delivered a special lecture on ‘Food Safety Measure’.

    Mr.M.Syed Ahamed, Plannig Officer, Nutrition International, delivered a special lecture on ‘Importance of Nutrition in Diet’. He said about the importance of Iodine in diet. Mr.P.Ponsingh, Distributor, Annai Gas Agency, Bharat Petroleum, gave a practical class on using and operating gas cylinders at home. Mr.K. Ganesan, Member, Empower proposed vote of thanks. The programme was organized by Dr.C.Thanavathi, Ms.P.Priya and Ms.C.Girija, V.O.C.College of Education, Thoothukudi. The programme ended with National anthem.
