Department of Tamil

Department of Tamil was started in our college in the year 1987. It has been the only college offering B.Ed. Tamil as on aided course in the jurisdiction of ManonmaniamSundaranar University. i.e. three districts Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari. Many students from deprived and marginalized classes can pursue their B.Ed. Tamil course through this college with scholarship.

Dr.V.Thamodharan was the founder Professor in the department serving from 1987 and retired in the year 2015. He was also serving as the principal. Dr.U.Viji also had been serving in the department for about a decade from 2008 to 2018. Mrs.C.Girija M.A. M.Ed., M.Phil., CTE, is now working as the Assistant Professor in the department.

To help student teachers build knowledge of content, methods of literary studies and creative writing.

To prepare student teachers for professional and graduates study and for life long learning.

To trains student teachers communication skill in Tamil.

To strengthen their ability to analyze all forms of literary expression in Tamil teaching.

To graduate well prepared qualified and competent student teachers have the ability to integrate and co-operate with all section of the society.

To analyze and identify the contribution of Tamil language to the mosaic of Tamil student teachers.

To reconstruct and review the scientific thoughts intellectual achievements and the outstanding knowledge of the ancient Tamils for the use of the contemporary society.

To study the grammatical and linguistic use of Tamil language.

To study the structure of Tamil language and the potential of Tamil language teaching.

To create modern methods for language teaching.

Objectives

To create love for the language and a passion to acquire higher order skills such as creative communication through the media of prose, poetry and drama.

To appreciate Tamil history and culture well.

To integrated activities with the curriculum to help students for higher academic achievement

History is the process used to evaluate what was significant about selected events, people, and developments in the past. Historians use different sets of criteria to help them make judgments about significance. Significance has been called the forgotten concept in history, no doubt because it can be challenging for both teacher and students.

The study of history provides critical knowledge of the institutions and values of the world in which we live. An understanding of the past can influence one’s ability to respond intelligently and effectively to the problems of the future. To make history, you must know your history.

The study of history is important because it allows one to make more sense of the current world. One can look at past economic and cultural trends and be able to offer reasonable predictions of what will happen next in today's world. One can also understand why some rules exist in the modern world.
